Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence- Rideau’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Brockville – The Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau began the program in 1987 and The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is a service provided year round by the Volunteer Centre.

In partnership with the Canada Revenue Agency, who provides training resources, the Volunteer Centre continues to provide this valuable service to seniors, low income individuals and families, single parents, disabled individuals, students and shut-ins by completing their annual Income Tax Return.

Community Volunteer Tax Program FAST FACTS:

  • 26 volunteers worked in 5 community locations within Leeds Grenville. Brockville, Prescott, Kemptville, Gananoque, Elgin
  • On average we complete approx. 3000 tax returns annually. Despite COVID19, approximately 2700 tax files were completed and filed to the CRA between mid-February and Sept. 30, 2020
  • Individuals from Leeds & Grenville receive a refund on average of $1200 per person. In total the average transfer payments amount to approx. $9000 per person. Based on these statistics from the Canada Revenue Agency our program generates million of dollars back into our communities and many of our most vulnerable population.

Evidence shows that many low-income people can quickly boost their incomes – sometimes by as much as 50 per cent – if they have the tools and strategies to claim and receive all the government benefits they’re entitled to.

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is a free service, brought to Leeds and Grenville residents by the Volunteers of the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau. Thank you for helping to create Strong Communities
