Brockville/Prescott – A very special 50/50 Draw has been launched by the United Way Leeds & Grenville, with some very special community partners. The United Way Leeds & Grenville Electronic Online 50/50 Raffle has been established as a special fundraiser for the Leeds and Grenville community, with proceeds from the raffle focused on local programs within the community to help provide housing stability, food security and mental wellness.
The online raffle has been given an enormous initial boost through a direct partnership with Alex Joannides, owner-operator of the Canadian Tire stores in Brockville and Prescott. Joannides has teamed up with the United Way Leeds & Grenville team as the prime sponsor of the 50/50 Raffle and has set up special United Way kiosks in both Canadian Tire Stores on Fridays and Saturdays, to promote the 50/50 and provide access to purchasing the tickets.
Trish Buote, Executive Director of United Way Leeds and Grenville, explained: “Our electronic 50/50 Raffle is a permanent fundraising programme for our United Way. There will be 6 raffles over the next year. Our first online raffle will draw on December 17th, with some lucky individual getting half the pot, just before Christmas! And the beauty of this raffle is everyone wins – a community ticket-buyer wins half the pot, and proceeds from the other half go directly back into our community to help individuals and families in need, from across Leeds and Grenville.
United Way Campaign Chair, Terry O’Reilly, furthered, “We are exceptionally thrilled to have Alex Joannides and the Canadian Tire Brockville and Prescott teams aboard to give time, effort and investment into our community with their participation as Prime Sponsor of our 50/50 Raffle. When we first approached Alex on this matter, he didn’t hesitate for one minute, and simply said, “I’m in. What can I do?”
Having the participation of Canadian Tire in this Raffle makes it even more exciting, with in-person points of sale set up in both stores, Fridays from 1-4 pm, and Saturdays from 10-2 pm right up to December 11th. Having Canadian Tire provides direct, point-of-sale access to buy 50/50 tickets helps extend the United Way reach, beyond the internet and directly into the communities it serves.
“We are all inspired by the tremendous cooperation and community spirit of Alex Joannides.” O’Reilly said.
Alex Joannides commented, “We are very pleased to partner with United Way Leeds & Grenville in this important fundraising campaign. My wife and I came to this area not only to set up our business but to be involved in the community. And our participation with United Way is just one of the ways we saw clearly to give back and contribute to the overall betterment of the Brockville and Prescott areas.”
