Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands appoints Mike Prior as Fire Chief

LANSDOWNE – The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the recruitment process for the Fire Chief. During the September 13th meeting of Council, Mike Prior was appointed as Fire Chief.
Chief Prior joined the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Service as Deputy Chief in 2019. In March 2021, he was appointed as Acting Fire Chief upon the retirement of Chief Rick Lawson.
Chief Prior brings over thirty-four years of firefighting experience to his new role and will be responsible for overseeing the Fire Service’s overall operations which include fire prevention, suppression, public education, volunteer recruitment and training. He will also play a critical role in implementing the recommendations of the recent Fire Service Review.
Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke stated, “Congratulations to Chief Prior on his appointment as Fire Chief. Mike is very engaged with the officers and volunteer firefighters and is a strong advocate for the Fire Service. His experience and training will serve him well as he leads the Fire Service.” Mayor Smith-Gatcke continued, “I wish to thank Councillors Mark Jamison and Gord Ohlke, Gananoque’s Fire Chief Gord Howard and CAO Steve Donachey who kindly served on the interview panel.”
