Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
- Merrickville-Wolford – Kemptville
- Westport – Charleston Lake
At 3:05 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.
This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Arden to Gatineau, moving east at 65 km/h.
Hazard: 110 km/h wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.
Locations impacted include:
Ottawa, Gatineau, Perth, Smiths Falls, Sharbot Lake, Silver Lake Provincial Park, Westport, Lanark, Murphys Point Provincial Park, Carleton Place, Franktown, Carp, Kanata, Merrickville, Richmond, Nepean, Rideau River Provincial Park, Kars, Kemptville and Gloucester.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
