“River Route” New South Grenville Public Transit Service Began This Morning, Monday, August 30th

Brockville – The new South Grenville Public Transit Service from Brockville to Cardinal began service this morning, Monday, August 30, 2021.
South Grenville Municipalities Augusta Township, Town of Prescott, Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal and the City of Brockville, have partnered to bring a new public transit service to popular employment areas with a bus route from Brockville to Cardinal along County Road 2, appropriately named the River Route.
Connecting with the existing Brockville transit system, the River Route begins in Brockville at the Brockville Transit box store stop at 5:30am. The route will continue east and bring commuters to and from popular workplaces in Brockville, Augusta, Prescott, and Edwardsburgh Cardinal in a 2-hour loop for 12 hours each weekday. Stops near Invista, Prescott Industrial Park, Giant Tiger Distribution Centre and Ingredion Canada are strategically located to serve large employment areas.
The bus will be equipped with GPS to let riders know the bus location directly from the website, so you are always aware of your wait time. Helpful QR codes are at each bus stop for easy access to transit information via mobile devices.
A ride on the River Route is only $5. Cash payment is accepted when boarding or tickets can be purchased at any of the four partner municipality offices. Books of 10 tickets can also be purchased for $40. Riders taking the bus into Brockville will be able to transfer onto the regular Brockville transit system at no additional cost. Please note, a separate ticket must be purchased if transferring from the regular Brockville transit system to the River Route.
Transfers are only valid to immediately transfer to another bus at one of the designated Transfer points.
Some supporting businesses have made tickets available to their staff directly through their offices. Please reach out to your municipal office if you would like to become a ticket sale partner.
The 6-month pilot project is funded in part by the Eastern Ontario Leadership Council, with a goal to fund Commuter Transportation Projects in Eastern Ontario. The four partner municipalities have each contributed with financial and in-kind support. Employment agencies CSE Consulting and Brockville’s Employment Education Centre have been key partners throughout the planning process.

Organizers say the pilot project will be closely monitored over the next 6 months. If the transit system proves to be financially sustainable for the partner municipalities, growth is possible by expanding the operating hours, frequency of stops, or adding weekend runs
