Leeds County OPP Weekly Police Reports – June 29th to July 3rd, 2021

Leeds County – Members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate various calls for service including impaired driving.

Two vehicle collision leads to an arrest for impaired

On June 29, 2021 just after 8:00 p.m., officers from the Rideau Lakes office were dispatched to a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Anglican Church Road and Station Road, Rideau Lakes Township. Officers were able to identify the driver at fault and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized at roadside. The driver was arrested and brought back to detachment for further testing.

A 54 year old from Smiths Falls was charged with:

• Operation while impaired by alcohol or drugs – Criminal Code 320.14(1)(a)

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – CC 320.14(1)(b)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on July 16, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Traffic complaint from the public leads to an arrest

On July 1, 2021 at about 2:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint westbound on Highway 401, Elizabethtown Township. The vehicle was located and officer conducted a traffic stop. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized at roadside and the driver was arrested and brought back to detachment for further testing.

A 42 year old from Montreal was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs – Criminal Code 320.14(1)(a)

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand – Criminal Code 320.15(1)

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor – Liquor Licence Act 32(1)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on July 23, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Traffic stop for speeding, driver arrested for impaired

On July 3, 2021 just before 5:30 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for a speeding vehicle on Highway 15, Elgin. Investigation led to an Approved Screening Device (ASD) being utilized at roadside. The driver was arrested and brought back to detachment for further testing.

A 30 year old from Kitchener was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs – Criminal Code 320.14(1)(a)

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – CC 320.14(1)(b)

• Speeding – Highway Traffic Act 128

• Novice driver B.A.C above zero – Highway Traffic Act 44.1(3)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on July 23, 2021 to answer to the charges.
