St. Lawrence Parks Commission and Ontario Trails Council Hosting Latest Public Meetings to Introduce Committee Representing Trail Interests Oct 19 and 20
Morrisburg – Following two meetings with a significant public interest, and a summer-long development process with a core group of community members who stepped up to lead, St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) and the Ontario Trails Council (OTC) will hold a set of public-facing meetings on October 19 and 20, 2021 to introduce the community to the Thousand Islands Parkway Trail Advisory Committee.
The Trail Advisory Committee is establishing itself as an independent body to help guide decision-making and shape the Thousand Islands Parkway Multi-Use Recreational Trail for the future. As a community-led advisory body, the committee will promote public awareness of trail etiquette and trail activities, as well as about allowed use on the trail, to create a safe environment for multi-use recreation. As it develops, the committee will also work toward assisting in fundraising for the trail and providing voluntary trail maintenance support to the trail infrastructure.
The committee includes representation from partners Front of Yonge Township and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, St. Lawrence Parks Commission, as well as members of the public from recreational groups, trail user federations, and people who live on and use the Thousand Islands Parkway every day.
The public meeting will also include a discussion about trail maintenance plans and next steps to address winter use concerns raised this past winter.
How to Participate
Public meetings are open to all, including those that may have missed previous meetings. To accommodate as many participants as possible, there will be two opportunities to attend the latest meeting: an evening discussion on October 19, 2021, and a day event on October 20, 2021. Content presented in both meetings will be the same.
