Brockville – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario’s annual George E. Smith Memorial Fire Truck Pull held last Saturday, October 16th was a resounding success.

As of Tuesday this week the event raised a total of $63,767.15, far surpassing this year’s goal of $50,000.

The winner of this year’s fire truck pull was the Brockville Fire department team with a time of 30 seconds.

“We are extremely grateful to Ian and the team at Burnbrae Farms. They have gone the extra mile to make this year’s event a resounding success,” Rob Adams, CEO of YMCA of Eastern Ontario said. “The fire truck pull has proven to be a popular community event and I know that I speak for everyone at the YMCA when I say, ‘thank you’ to our sponsors, the participants and everyone who donated to support a team.”

The George E. Smith Memorial Fire Truck Pull raises funds for the YMCA’s financial assistance program that provides support to those in our community who would not otherwise be able to access the Y’s programs and services. The need in the community has grown during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As a charity, the Y supports one in every four memberships through our financial assistance program. Without the help of our wonderful community, so many people would not have access to the Y’s healthy programs and inclusive, safe spaces,” Adams said. “The Y is open to everyone and someone’s ability to pay should not be a barrier to their participation.”

The YMCA of Eastern Ontario would like to thank the Smith Family for their enthusiastic support of the event named in honour of George and all of the sponsors.
