Brockville – The United Counties of Leeds & Grenville’s Committee of the Whole is supporting the submission of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s (EORN) Cellular Mobile Broadband Project to federal and provincial governments for expansion funding.

The Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus Inc. has identified the need to improve mobile broadband and cellular networks as critical to propelling innovation and economic growth in all sectors of the regional economy, including manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation services.

EORN has identified significant gaps in coverage and capacity across this region which impact on public safety, economic growth, and quality of life for residents. It has prepared a business case to support improvements and expansion across Eastern Ontario and establishing a Public

Safety Broadcast Network (PSBN) for First Responders. It is also proposing the development of a PSBN pilot project covering Eastern Ontario.

Counties Council believes this project is essential and will work as a partner with both EORN and EOWC, federal and provincial governments, along with the private sector to improve the services for people and businesses in Eastern Ontario.
