Avonmore – The Carleton Place High School (CPHS) Bears have won the Upper Canada Cup Girls’ Intermediate Volleyball Championship.

The Bears defeated North Dundas District High School 25-9 and 26-24 during the final, held Wednesday at Tagwi Secondary School in Avonmore.

CPHS Coach Kirk Belisle attributed the win to a deep bench, honed by extensive practice throughout the season which built player confidence.

“We used substitution on a regular basis so everyone was in the game,” said Belisle. “Even when things got tough everyone felt confident in their abilities. It really helped us in the end.”

Strong serving in the final from Olivia Brewer, and defensive play from Lily Burtch and Maddie Brydges, factored into the victory.
