Carleton Place – The Carleton Place High School (CPHS) boys’ curling team won silver on February 15 at the Ontario School Curling Provincial Championships, held in Chatham, Ont., with the boys’ team from Glengarry District High School (GDHS) winning bronze.
CPHS played Haliburton Highlands Secondary School in the final, losing 6-5 in an extra end. Assistant Coach Brent Litle said the game came down to the final shot, when Haliburton tapped back a CPHS rock, winning by two inches.
“It feels great,” said Litle. “We weren’t expecting to be there and the team did really well. We came from behind in many of our games and the boys played their hearts out. I’m really proud of the team.” The CPHS team is comprised of skip Adam Litle, third Spencer Ritchie, second Jeremy Scott, and lead Bryce Ritchie.
GDHS defeated Ursuline College Chatham 7-6 to win bronze. Skip Addison Hay, with the help of precise line calling from third Braeden Hay and intense sweeping from second Camden Van Loon and lead Caleb Raymond, made two beautiful shots in the last end to take the win.
“We played some really close games, which helped us gain experience playing in high pressure situations, but we really came together when we won the bronze medal, making the long trip to Chatham worthwhile,“ said Addison Hay.
Two GDHS team members were named to the all-star teams, based on player stats during round-robin play. Braeden Hay was selected as third for the first all-star team and Addison Hay was named skip for the second all-star team.
