UPDATE: SD&G OPP CONTINUE SEARCH FOR MISSING DIVER

UPDATE: SD&G OPP CONTINUE SEARCH FOR MISSING DIVER

SOUTH STORMONT – Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to remain at the scene of a missing scuba diver in the St.Lawrence River near Lock 21 on MacDonell Island in South Stormont Township.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that just prior to 9:00 a.m., a diver returned to shore and his diving partner, for reasons under investigation, did not surface. SD&G OPP initiated a search with the assistance of the SD&G OPP Marine Unit, South Stormont Fire Services, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (two boats), United States Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center from CFB Trenton with its helicopter.

The search continues with the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit at the location with the assistance of the SD&G OPP Marine Unit.

As the investigation continues SD&G OPP request the public to continue to avoid the area.
