Smiths Falls –Two local Smiths Falls Police Officers travelled out to the World Police and Fire Games in Los Angeles last week and came home with a number of medals. Sgt. Jodi Empey and Cst. Brent Pellett competed in swimming and running events. Jodi won gold in five swimming events at the Exposition Swim Stadium in LA, the 50m fly, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and the 100m relay in the over 40 years category. Brent won silver in both the half marathon and half marathon relay in the over 40 heavy weight division. His event was held at Griffith Park in LA. This was not their first time involved with the World Games. Jodi and Brent first started in New York City in 2011, Brent participated in the games in Fairfax VA in 2013 and the two went to Belfast, Ireland in 2015. The games are held every two years in different parts of the world. Athletes, who must be either full time Police Officers or Firefighters, come from all over to participate in a number of different games and events.
The two officers were very thankful for the financial support from the Smiths Falls Police Association and the support from the Smiths Falls Police Services Board for allowing them to represent the Service.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments of these two officers. They have represented our Service and our Community very well”, says Chief Mark MacGillivray.
