TWO IN CUSTODY AFTER RUNNING FROM COLLISION SCENE

TWO IN CUSTODY AFTER RUNNING FROM COLLISION SCENE

PERTH –  A resident of Drummond Concession 5A in Drummond-North Elmsley Township awoke this morning just before 3:00 a.m., to a vehicle in the ditch and two males attempting to get the vehicle free. Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived, located and arrested one male after a brief foot chase; the second male was arrested shortly thereafter. The subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle in the ditch had been stolen in Kingston.

The first male, Jeffrey HAMILTON, age 22 of Perth, Ontario has been charged with the following offences:

  • Trespassing at night
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (2 counts)
  • Obstruct peace officer

The second male, Joel CLOSS, age 26 of Tay Valley Township has been charged with the following offences:

  • Trespassing at night
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
  • Fail to comply with recognizance (3 counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (2 counts)
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing this afternoon at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth.
