Driving complaint nets arrest
On Monday August 14, 2017 at approximately 3:58 p.m. a concerned citizen phoned 9-1-1 to report an erratic driver driving on Highway 43 West coming into Smiths Falls. Police attended the area and the driver and vehicle was located. Investigation revealed that the driver, a 52 year old male of Smiths Falls was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and later released by way of a promise to appear in court to answer to the charge of Operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Female assaulted after verbal argument
On Tuesday August 15, 2017 at approximately 8:55 p.m. police were called to attend a residence on William Street East for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed that a female resident had been involved in a verbal argument with a 34 year old male suspect from Smiths Falls. During the argument the suspect damaged property at the residence and assaulted the female resident. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.
The suspect was later arrested and is charged with assault, mischief under $5000.00, 3 breaches of his probation order and 1 breach of his recognizance of bail release conditions. The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.
