TOWN OF PERTH – Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators continue to investigate a serious two vehicle collision that caused a gas leak in the center of Perth.
At about 14:42 OPP, Perth fire Service and Lanark County Ambulance Service responded to the incident at the intersection of Gore Street and Herriott Street. One of the vehicles struck a building on the north east corner of the intersection and a natural gas line was severed.
One person sustained major injuries and was taken by air ambulance to hospital in Ottawa. Another person with minor injuries was taken to hospital in Perth.
The gas line has been sealed but, for the community’s safety, emergency services continue to monitor the density of gas in the area.
Residences and businesses in the immediate area were evacuated.
Drivers and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area for their own safety and to allow emergency services to operate.
Roads are blocked at
Herriott Street and Drummond Street East.
Gore Street and Foster Street.
Gore Street and Colbourne Street
Herriott Street and Wilson Street West.
