RENFREW – On September 15, 2017, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted of an Amber Alert in the province of Quebec where the suspect was believed to be in Ontario.
Members of the Napanee OPP and neighbouring detachments began an active search with the assistance of several OPP resources including Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Helicopter Unit, East Region Regional Support Team, all of which were under the direction of Case Manager, Detective Inspector Daniel Nadeau with the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
The male, Ugo FREDETTE, 41, of Quebec was apprehended on Highway 41, southwest of Renfrew after a spike belt was deployed. The suspect fled the vehicle where a short foot pursuit ensued and was apprehended by our uniformed officers.
The child, Louka FREDETTE, 6, was located in the vehicle and taken into police custody. The child is in good physical health and under the care of child services.
The suspect remains in custody where he is scheduled to appear for a Bail Hearing via Weekend and Statutory Holidays (WASH) Court on Saturday September 16, 2017.
The investigation remains ongoing in conjunction with the Sûreté du Quebec.
