Ottawa – On Friday, October 19, 2018, investigators with the Ottawa Police Service Human Trafficking Unit and the PIVOT Unit arrested an Ottawa man for various human trafficking charges stemming from an ongoing investigation.
A female survivor in her 20s came forward to the Human Trafficking Unit at the beginning of October, 2018. An investigation was commenced which resulted in the identification of the accused.
Marco CLAYTON, 27 years old of Ottawa is charged with:
- Trafficking in persons by recruiting, etc.
- Trafficking in persons by exercising control, etc.
- Financial / material benefit / trafficking person over 18
- Forcible confinement
- Procuring / exercising control
- Material benefit from sexual services
- Assault with weapon or imitation weapon
- Assault / cause bodily harm
CLAYTON is currently held in custody, and will appear in court on October 20th for a show cause hearing.
The Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit strongly believes that there are several more victims who have yet to come forward.
“This is yet another strong example of multiple investigative units working collaboratively to identify, locate and arrest an individual who was a threat to the safety and security of women in Ottawa,” stated Sgt. Damien Laflamme, of the Human Trafficking Unit.
