LANARK COUNTY – Between Monday September 18, 2017 and Sunday September 24, 2017 officers from the Lanark Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 389 calls for service.

On September 20, 2017, at approximately 12:10 pm a red passenger car was waiting to turn left into a private driveway on Dufferin Street in the Town of Perth. Another passenger vehicle was entering the roadway and struck the vehicle as it waited to make its left turn, from behind. One Westbound lane of Dufferin St was blocked for about an hour as police investigated. The rear vehicle driver was given a provincial offenses notice and is charged with:
One (1) count Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
At 2:27 am on Sunday, September 24, officers were called to a collision involving a single vehicle on Hwy 511 between Wolfgrove Rd and Dobbie Rd in Lanark Highlands Township.
Investigation revealed that a Ford Pick-up truck had left the roadway and struck the ditch. The pickup truck was recognized by officers as one that had fled from a RIDE check earlier in the Town of Perth. The man was not injured.
The driver of the Ford, Malcolm Loyst, a sixty-one (61) year old man from the Lanark Highlands, was charged:
One (1) Count Flight from Police
One (1) Count Drive Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol
One (1) Count Operate Motor Vehicle with More than 80mgs of Alcohol per
100 mls of Blood.
All offences are contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
He was released with a court date to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
At 11:53 pm on Thursday, September 19, officers were called to a residence in the Municipality of Mississippi Mills(Almonte).
As a result of the investigation a forty seven (73) year old man from Almonte is charged:
One (1) Count Attempt murder.
One (1) Count Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm.
One (1) Count Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle.
The man was held in custody pending a Bail hearing at the Provincial Court in the Town of Perth on Friday, 22 September, 2017.
