Kingston – Kingston Police want to make the public aware of potentially unsafe electrical work on home appliance installations purchased through certain door to door sales companies out of Ottawa. The concerns are in regards to companies that failed to obtain a permit from the Electrical Safety Authority for installations of furnaces, air conditioners and water treatment products in Kingston and area, since 2015.
Police have learned of at least three installations inspected by the Electrical Safety Authority that have been deemed unsafe. Customers in these cases are then required to hire a licensed electrical contractor to correct the issues. No criminal charges are pending, however police are issuing this alert as a precautionary measure.
Anyone who is unsure if a permit was obtained for an installation of these types of appliances, should contact the Electrical Safety Authority 1-877-372-7233 to verify if a permit was issued and arrange a safety inspection if not.
