LEEDS – Officers of the Thousand Islands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) continue to investigate a traffic stop where stolen property was located.
On February 24, 2019 at about 5:00 p.m. OPP officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 401 in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township after reports of a theft from an alcohol retailer in Edwardsburg Township. As a result of the stop, four people were arrested and charged with numerous multi-jurisdictional theft related offences.
43 year old Karnelle BLACK of Hamilton faces charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000, Fail to Comply with a Recognizance, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, and Theft under $5000.
61 year old Frederick HEATH of Hamilton faces charges of Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000; and Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.
36 year old Gina MARINESCU of Niagara Falls faces a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.
49 year old Mihai STOICHECI of Hamilton faces a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.
After an appearance at the Brockville Court of Justice on February 25, 2019, Heath and Black remain in custody while Marinescu and Stoicheci were released pending a future court appearance date. Additionally, Heath and Black will answer to outstanding warrants for similar charges in other jurisdictions
