LEEDS – A financial loss in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township prompted a casino attendee to call 911.

On April 7, 2018 at about 5:00 AM members of the Leeds and the Thousand Islands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call for service from a 21 year old Quebec woman after she had lost all of her money at the Shoreline Casino Thousand Islands. She was requesting OPP assistance in getting back home.

In order to insure her well-being she was requested to stay put and await verification. The woman then called OPP back saying that someone just gave her $20, so she was going back into the casino and no longer needed police assistance.

Detachment Commander Inspector Mike Francis reminds citizens that, ‘An emergency is any situation when the safety of people or property is at risk and requires immediate assistance. Examples of 9-1-1 emergencies include: a crime in progress, a fire or a medical emergency or simply, whenever police, fire or ambulance assistance is required immediately.’
