Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Youssef Mohammed Hussein.
Mr. Hussein, 27, died on April 12, 2016, at the Ottawa Hospital after transfer from the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding the death of Mr. Hussein. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
Details regarding the date and location will be provided when the information becomes available. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will preside as inquest coroner and Peter Napier will be counsel to the coroner.
