Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne released the following statement today: “This morning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he will recommend to the Governor General a new Senator to represent Ontario.
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I want to congratulate Dr. Yvonne Boyer on her appointment.
A member of the Métis Nation of Ontario, Dr. Boyer has enjoyed a distinguished career as a lawyer, professor and researcher. Dr. Boyer is currently the Associate Director of the University of Ottawa Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics and Professor in the Faculty of Law. Throughout her career, she has worked tirelessly to examine and address the inequalities that exist between Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous people in health care services and delivery.
Dr. Boyer was recommended by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments and chosen using the merit-based process open to all Canadians.
I wish Dr. Boyer well in her new appointment and I am confident that her vast expertise will be an outstanding contribution to the Senate and will serve the best interests of people across this province.”
