Premier Ford to represent Ontario at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington, D.C.
TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford is continuing his work for the people of Ontario as he prepares to represent the province at the National Governors Association’s Winter Meeting, next month in Washington, D.C.”I am very happy to be heading to Washington to talk about how our province is open for business and the measures we’re taking to help companies create jobs in Ontario,” Ford noted.

Premier Ford looks forward to strengthening Ontario’s ties with key trading partners in the U.S. Relationships like the ones that Premier Ford is fostering are essential to Ontario’s long-term economic sustainability and growth.

While in Washington, Premier Ford will continue to call for the removal of U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, which are damaging Ontario’s manufacturing sector.

“I’m looking forward to sitting down with my American counterparts to discuss economic growth and trade,” said Ford. “I will push to reduce unnecessary trade barriers to ensure that Ontario is open for business and open for jobs.”



  • Premier Doug Ford met with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week to discuss opportunities to support and increase trade between Ontario and Michigan.
  • In 2017, two-way trade between Ontario and the U.S. totalled over CAD$400 billion, with agri-food trade totalling CAD$28.8 billion.
  • In 2017, 2.2 million autos were manufactured in Ontario (13 per cent of North America). Of these, 1.9 million were exported to the U.S.
