Brockville – The Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau recognized local volunteers at a reception held last Wednesday as part of National Volunteer Week 2019
National Volunteer Week was celebrated from April 7 to 13, 2019. This year’s theme was: “The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities”.
Locally, in recognition of National Volunteer Week 2019, the Volunteer Centre hosted the reception on Wednesday, April 10th at Luna Restaurant in Brockville, to recognize Youth and Adult volunteers who made a positive impact on their community.
Recipients were nominated by schools and organizations in Leeds Grenville.
Recipients of the Student Volunteer Caring Awards were Kayla Smith a grade 4 student from St. John Bosco Catholic School in Brockville; Malcolm Kay and Owen Leakey, grade 6 students from Thousand Islands Elementary School in Lansdowne; Kacey Caines, a grade 9 student at North Grenville District High School in Kemptville and Krystal Green, a student attending T.R. Leger in Brockville.
The five individuals that received Community Volunteer Impact Awards from the Volunteer Centre and citations from MP Michael Barrett, MPP Steve Clark were Peter Christie, David Dargie, Linda Fournier, Bob Gollinger and Bruce Wylie.
As well, a special Community Impact award was presented to Betty Haley, the first Executive Director of the Volunteer Centre, originally known as the Volunteer Bureau, from 1981 to 2004.
