Eastbound traffic exiting and reentering Hwy 401 at County Road 2

Elizabethtown-Kitley – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leeds County are continuing an investigation into a transport fire on eastbound Highway 401.

Police say that on July 18th at about 1:15 AM, officers of the Leeds County OPP detachment responded to a transport fire on Highway 401, west of Brockville in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township. The truck which was transporting ‘freezies’ became completely engulfed in flames causing east and westbound lanes of Highway 401 to be closed.

Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has been contacted in regards to a diesel spill. OPP say that there were no reported injuries.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 remain closed until about 8:00 PMthis evening to allow for the vehicle removal, resurfacing of damaged asphalt and MOE investigation and clean up.

Detours are in place at Long Beach for eastbound 401 traffic today. Traffic exiting and reentering Hwy 401 EB at Hwy2.
