Prescott – The Town of Prescott held a special meeting of the Emergency Management Committee on Friday morning to review precautions regarding the developing situation with coronavirus (COVID-19).
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all Town recreational programming and facility rentals will cease for the immediate future, including Walker House and the Prescott Public Library. Town Hall will remain open; however we ask anyone requiring assistance with Town related matters to call 613-925-2812, ext. 6200. The Town of Prescott will continue to monitor the ongoing situation and update the public accordingly. The Town will review these measures, as circumstances require. The Town of Prescott is also adding greater disinfectant practices at municipal facilities.
“We are committed to doing all that we can to secure the health and safety of our residents during the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Mayor Brett Todd. “Please be very mindful of those vulnerable to this virus, particularly the significant number of older people in our region. Limit travel where possible and limit attendance at larger gatherings of people especially those involving our more vulnerable citizens. Do what you can to minimize the spread of this virus and look out for those at risk.”
At this time, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit states the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 continues to be low in this region. In order to reduce the spread of germs including the flu and COVID-19 it is recommended that you:
– Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just cleaned your hands
– Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand
– If possible, stay home if you are sick
– Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres
