Prescott – The St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival opens for another season this Saturday, July 8th with Antony and Cleopatra at the Kinsmen Amphitheatre in Prescott.

The St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival runs July 8th – August 12th. Opening night for the The Three Musketeers is Wednesday, July 12th.

There will be evening performances Tuesday – Saturday at 7:00pm and matinee performances Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday at 1:00pm.

August 15th is the opening night of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).

Both Antony and Cleopatra and The Three Musketeers are directed by Rona Waddington.

As well, The Professional Actor’s Association (Canadian Actors Equity) has extended a special concession for a 2nd Year…enabling 20 community members to performs as extras alongside the Festival’s 12 professional actors in its upcoming productions of Antony & Cleopatra and The Three Musketeers. 10 extras will perform in each production.

DAN COOK, a partner at Brister’s Insurance, who made his stage debut in last season’s Julius Caesar will be returning to tread the boards in The Three Musketeers. “It’s a huge commitment” said Dan, “but it’s also a lot of fun and very rewarding! And it’s a great way to participate in the community.”

Festival artistic director RONA WADDINGTON is delighted to be able to integrate local talent into the shows. “Mixing community members with professional actors creates a great dynamic, it makes it visually exciting and brings scope and scale to the stories. Both A & C and Musketeers are big, epic stories with lots of action so it’s wonderful to have the human resources to bring them vividly to life!”

Of the 20 extras (in the theatre world, they are called SUPERS) 8 are returning, having appeared in last season’s Julius Caesar; 4 are past participants of the Festival’s Young Artists Training Program; …and some are even related! There are two pairs of Mother/Daughters, one Mother/Son and one Husband/Wife team. The Supers range in age from 13 to 71 years old.

Tickets are ADULT: $30, WED MATINEE: $20, STUDENT: $20 and YOUTH 14 and under: FREE (when accompanied by an adult).
