Prescott – Chase the Ace has been making waves in the Maritimes and now it is time for Ontario to join in the fun! St. Mark Catholic Church and the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival have joined together to operate a weekly Catch the Ace raffle. “We were very pleased that St. Mark Catholic Church asked us to partner with them for this fundraising opportunity”, says General Manager, Ingrid Bjornson. A joint committee has been formed with volunteers from both organizations. Volunteers have been working hard preparing for the first draw!
The raffle works like this: Each week, people buy a ticket for the weekly draw. Half goes to the charity, the winner of the weekly draw gets 20 percent and 30 percent goes into a progressive jackpot. The weekly winner gets a chance to win the progressive jackpot if the envelope number chosen contains the ace of spades. If there is no winner that week, the jackpot grows until the ace of spades is selected. Each week the deck of cards gets smaller, so the odds of winning increase.
The first draw will take place on Thursday May 18 at 12:00 p.m. and will be live on Facebook. Tickets will be available for sale May 11 at the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Office, 206 King Street West in Prescott. You can purchase tickets Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Tickets are $5.00 each.
Catch the Ace has the potential to become a regular fundraising event to support both St. Mark Catholic Church and The St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival. “We are really excited about this new fundraising opportunity for our organizations. We hope that it builds excitement in the community as well as the jackpot grows”, remarked Mike Perles, Chair of the St. Mark Church Finance Committee.
