Kingston/Brockville – The Board of Directors of the YMCA of Brockville and Area and the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Kingston are pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Adams as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 22, 2018. Rob will play a key role in leading our YMCAs through amalgamation, allowing more collaboration and increased benefit to the region.
“It is our great pleasure that Rob Adams, an experienced YMCA leader and Brockville resident, will be joining our YMCAs in the role of Chief Executive Officer,” said Brad Speck, Board Chair, YMCA of Brockville and Area. “Rob has a deep understanding of our communities and extensive non-profit experience, most recently, as Vice President, Health, Fitness, Aquatics, Child Care and Camping at the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region in Ottawa. His background, desire, passion for the community, and ability to build positive relationships make him the ideal leader for our two organizations.”
Rob was intrigued by the prospect of joining the YMCA of Kingston and the YMCA of Brockville and Area as CEO, noting that “opportunities like this do not come up too often in life. My career started here and to be able to provide leadership to enhance the long-term reach and sustainability ofthe YMCA inthis region is a gratifying feeling.”
As a senior leader with the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region since 2008, Rob is familiar with the work required by organizations in transition. The YMCAs of Kingston and Brockville are poised for a period of growth and expansion to serve more citizens and offer more programs and services to members and families, in addition to several change initiatives supported by the unification process undertaken by the two YMCAs. Rob has experience improving organizational performance and has developed many community partnerships. He is an active volunteer in the Brockville community and will be a familiar face to many members and program participants in that community. As an enthusiastic YMCA professional, he brings the skills and desire needed to drive the amalgamation journey that was previously announced by these YMCAs. Rob’s role as a shared CEO between the two organizations will be central to the unification process.
The recruitment of a new CEO coincides with the retirement of Mary Kloosterman, CEO, YMCA of Kingston (August 31, 2018), and will also herald the successful conclusion of the secondment period of Diana Deakin-Thomas, CEO, YMCA of Brockville and Area (October 26, 2018). Both YMCA Boards of Directors extend their appreciation to Mary and to Diana for their leadership and are thankful for the commitment these long serving professionals have made to the YMCAs in these communities.
“Our communities and our Boards of Directors actively participated in the CEO selection process through stakeholder consultations and a formal process which began in May 2018,” said Jay Rayner, Chair, YMCA of Kingston. “We established a Joint CEO Search Committee consisting of representatives of both Boards of Directors. This selection and appointment of Rob Adams represents their unanimous consensus. We look forward to moving forward together with Rob on our unification journey.”
The Joint CEO Search Committee was supported by Jim Janzen, who represented the Ontario YMCA Regional Development Centre (RDC) and YMCA Canada. More than 65 high quality applicants expressed interest in this opportunity.
