Brockville – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our entire region for today.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.
Conditions will be favourable for severe thunderstorms late this morning into this afternoon. A cold front will move through Eastern Ontario, triggering numerous thunderstorms across the region.
The main threats are damaging wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, and torrential downpours giving 25 to 50 mm of rain in under an hour.
Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
