Brockville – The Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands, the morning club of Rotary Brockville presented their annual Paul Harris Fellow Awards at the Brockville Country Club on Wednesday morning.
First to be presented with the award were Robert & Iris Dentz from the Tincap Berry Farm for their generosity in providing fruits and vegetables that feed thousands locally each year at both Loaves and Fishes Brockville & the Pier Christian Church suppers and the annual Island Breakfast.
Next, Brockville Police Service Community Safety Officer, Cst. Mark Heffernan was presented the award for all of his hard work and dedication on many initiatives including the Stingers Indoor Paintball/Brockville Police After School Program, Movies in the Park, the Community Hub, Connections and many more. He is also a mentor to many and an extremely positive influence in the community.
Brockville Police Chief Scott Fraser was surprised that he was the next recipient of this year’s award. In addition to his role as Chief of Police, he is a Rotarian, a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Brockville Pipes and Drums; and a fixture at most community fundraising events.
Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow Award is the highest honour a club can bestow on a person, either inside or outside the club. The award therefore acknowledges “service above self” which that individual has offered to their community, their nation or indeed to the world.
