Port of Johnstown Hosting 2nd Annual Port Day This Saturday, June 10th

Johnstown – The Port of Johnstown will hold its 2nd Annual Port Day on Saturday, June 10, 2017 with a host of public activities to celebrate marine shipping’s important contribution to sustainable economic development in Eastern Ontario.

“We’re excited to be opening our doors once again for the community to see the many ways a port benefits their lives,” says Port General Manager Robert Dalley. “The port processes and transports over 1.2 million metric tons of goods each year used by local businesses, farms and municipalities but it also creates jobs, attracts inward investment and contributes significantly to the environmental sustainability of our region.” Dalley added: “Last year, we had close to a 1000 people visit with tours of the Canadian Coast Guard’s CCGS Griffon one of the key highlights. We are delighted to have the CCGS Corporal Teather this year and to also have tours of the Navy vessel HMCS Goose Bay.”

The free event, being held between 12 pm and 4pm (doors open 11:30am), will also feature all-day tours of the Port, public boardwalk, booths, and a draw for VIP access to the grain terminal. Attendees are invited to enjoy a community BBQ, music by Sons of Gord, archery games hosted by the Grenville Fish and Game Club, the Giant Tiger Train, children’s activities and prizes and much more.

Opening remarks will start at 12pm with speeches from MP Gord Brown (Leeds and Grenville), Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Mayor Pat Sayeau, Chamber of Marine Commerce Vice-President of Operations Robert Turner, and vessel officials. Speakers will be available for media interviews and photo opportunities.

Vessel tours will also be available on Sunday, June 11th from 10am to 4pm.
