OPP Nab Impaired Driver After DRE Test

Leeds & 1000 Islands – Officers of the Leeds and the Thousand Islands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped an impaired driver after a traffic stop.

On February 5, 2018 at about 9:20 P.M. OPP officers while conducting patrol on Highway 401 in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township stopped an eastbound vehicle after observing concerning driving behaviour.

After an investigation the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation by a drug. The driver completed a Drug Influence Evaluation by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) where he was found to be impaired.

A 28 year old man from Ottawa is scheduled to answer to charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by Drug, and Possession of Cannabis Marihuana at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Division, Brockville on March 2, 2018.

Leeds OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Mike Francis reminds drivers ‘Whether its drug or alcohol impairment, the end result is similar, a possible criminal conviction for Impaired Driving, a drivers’ license suspension and a vehicle impound.’
