OPP Investigating Home Invasion in Rideau Lakes

Rideau Lakes – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a reported home invasion.

On October 24, 2020 just after 4:30 a.m., officers from the Rideau Lakes office, Lanark OPP and Smiths Falls Police responded to a home on Highway 15, South Elmsley Township.

The residents, who were in the house at the time, reported that two males entered the home and assaulted them. Minor injuries were sustained. As a result of the investigation, two people have been arrested.

A 32 year-old, from South Elmsley Township was charged with:

• Assault – Criminal Code 266 (two counts)

• Break, enter dwelling house, commit indictable offence – Criminal Code 348(1)(b)

• Failure to comply with undertaking – Criminal Code 145(4)(a)

• Failure to comply with release order, other than to attend court – Criminal Code 145(5)(a)

• Mischief under $5000 – Criminal Code 430(4)

A 33 year-old, from Almonte, Ontario was charged with:

• Assault – Criminal Code 266 (two counts)

• Break, enter dwelling house, commit indictable offence – Criminal Code 348(1)(b)

• Mischief under $5000 – Criminal Code 430(4)

• Disguise with intent – Criminal Code 351(2)

Both accused were held for bail and later released. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date to answer to the charges
