Brockville – The Ontario SPCA Leeds & Genville Animal Shelter held its annual Friends for Life! Walk™ this past Saturday, September 21st in support of local animals in need.
The walk saw over 20 walkers with their canine friends walking through the Railway Tunnel and back and then a loop around Blockhouse Island.
There was a tribute to a Brockville couple, Andrew and Cheryl Van der Peet, who adopted a northern rescue dog, Nicki, a German Shepherd-Collie mix, who was lead animal for this year’s walk. It was also the first time the couple had a chance to see one of Nicki’s pups, in which they help foster for awhile.
This year’s fundraising goal was $10,000 and organizers hoped to achieve it again this year.
The walk in Brockville is one of 12 Friends for Life! Walk locations taking place across the province throughout September.
Funds raised support programs and services provided by the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society animal centres and participating humane societies across Ontario.
