WESTPORT — A major infrastructure investment from the provincial government is paving the way for a smoother ride for residents and visitors alike in the Village of Westport, Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark announced today.
MPP Clark joined Westport Mayor Robin Jones to announce the province is investing close to $1.8 million to fully reconstruct Bedford Street.
“Anyone who has spent time in the Village knows the poor condition of Bedford Street has been a source of concern to residents and business owners. As a tourist community, having quality infrastructure like good roads is important to make a great impression on visitors,” said Clark. “The cost of the project meant that support from the province was needed to get shovels in the ground and I’m so pleased our government is making it happen. I want to thank Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott for working with me to deliver results for the people I represent.”
“The investment from the Ontario Government means that people travelling on Bedford Street through the Village of Westport will no longer be jostled about due to the existing poor condition of the road,” said Mayor Jones. “The Village would like to recognize Minister Laurie Scott’s vision to provide this infrastructure grant in the absence of any federal contribution. We are very grateful to MPP Steve Clark, who continues to work with us to improve the experiences of those who live, work and visit our community.”
In addition to the provincial contribution, the Village of Westport will invest over $128,000 to support the $1,927,800 reconstruction project.
This investment continues to build on Ontario’s partnership with local municipalities, families and businesses to deliver safe, sustainable infrastructure to communities across the province.
“We’re continuing to work with municipalities, families and businesses, to make smart investments in our infrastructure and keep it reliable,” says Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott. “Our investments are creating jobs and growing the economy, shaping the future for hard-working families in Ontario.”
