Brockville – To address the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brockville General Hospital (BGH) has been working even more closely with the doctors at our hospital and across the community. On May 1, join BGH as we celebrate the many doctors across our community.

“I can’t thank the physicians at BGH and in our community enough,” says Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO of BGH. “Collectively, they have stepped up to the challenges our hospital and health system are facing and have shown incredible leadership and compassion during this dynamic time.”

Since December, BGH has been carefully monitoring the many changes associated with COVID-19, and medical leadership has been key to the hospital and community’s effective response.

“We’re very fortunate to have several doctors participating in daily (virtual) meetings. As a team, we review any new information and make shared decisions on how to best care for our community,” Vlacholias continued.  “These physicians include representation from our internal programs, primary care teams and Dr. Paula Stewart from The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Public Health Unit.”

With this year’s Doctors’ Day falling in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Medical Association is initiating the special light shining moment called ‘Shine A Light For All They Do’ so Ontarians can come together, from a distance, and participate in celebrating doctors. At 9:00 p.m. Ontarians are asked to turn on the flashlight on their phones and hold it high, through their window, from their balcony, front porch or driveway, for about five minutes.

On May 1, please join BGH and others across Ontario to help us celebrate the doctors who work tirelessly to support our health and well-being.
