Kemptville – The Board of Trustees of the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario has approved the name of the new K-8 elementary school currently being constructed in Smiths Falls. A Board policy helped to guide the process, and it has been decided that the school will be named St. Francis de Sales Catholic School.
“In keeping with the tradition of the community, and with the name of the parish, it was decided to name the school St. Francis de Sales,” noted Director of Education, Wm. J. Gartland.
Susan Forbes, the current principal at St. James the Greater Catholic School, has been appointed the principal of the new school effective September 1, 2018.
Construction is on track for the new school to be completed in time for the scheduled September 2018 opening. Located at 4 Ross Street, the facility will replace the existing St. Francis de Sales and St. James the Greater, and will house approximately 423 pupils from JK to Grade 8.
The new elementary school will also include a pre-school/toddler child care program, as well as a community support centre supported by Lanark County.
The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario operates 40 elementary and 10 secondary schools across eight counties. The CDSBEO offers excellence in Catholic education through provincial-leading programs to approximately 12,600 students.
