Augusta Fire Rescue Warns Residents of Telephone Scam

Augusta – Augusta Fire Rescue received a call from a resident yesterday asking if Augusta Fire Rescue does a phone campaign to raise funds for the Fire Department and their Smoke Alarm Program.

They had received a call from a person stating that they were raising funds for such. They tried to ask the caller questions, and the caller just kept asking if they would like to donate.

One thing they did notice is that the caller was not specific about the name of the Fire Department, the caller just kept saying they are looking for donations for the Fire Department and their smoke alarm program.

So, to be clear, Augusta Fire Rescue is not calling and asking for donations. We have forwarded this info to Grenville County OPP and they are going to follow up.

If you hear of someone with a similar story please explain that it is not the Fire Department asking for donations, it is a scam. If they have given money to the caller they should call the OPP.

If they did not give the caller anything the OPP would like them to call the Canadian Anti Fraud Center toll free at 1-888-495-850 PLEASE SHARE SO NO-ONE BECOMES A VICTIM OF THIS SCAM!
