Public Asked to Avoid Mississippi Lake as OPP Investigate 2 Vehicles Breaking Through Ice

BECKWITH TOWNSHIP – Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by members of the Snow Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessel Enforcement / Education (SAVE) Unit are actively investigating two collisions in close proximity on Mississippi Lake in Beckwith Township.

The public is asked not to travel the lake between:

The West.  Pretties Island (ie. Pretties Island Road)

The East.   Craig Shore (ie. 9th Line of Beckwith and Tennyson Road)

At 03:45am on Sunday January 6, 2018 officers responded to a report of a passenger vehicle through the ice near Craig Shore.

On arrival the officers located an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), with lights on, partially submerged. While searching for occupants the officers established that there was another vehicle through the ice which was the subject of the original call.

One adult male was transported to hospital to be treated for the effects of Hyperthermia.

Officers are trying to establish the number, safety and wellbeing of any people involved in the two incidents.
