Perth Area Residents Beware of Donations for Local Youth Scam

Town of Perth – Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been notified by Staff at YAK Youth Services of a fraud using their organisation as a “hook”.

Staff contacted OPP after a local business owner had received a phone call seeking a cash donation to support YAK. The business owner did not make a donation but called YAK .

At this time YAK Youth Services have no active campaign to seek donations.

YAK uses a different format to approach business and community members regarding donations and does not make “cold calls”.

Lanark County OPP continue to urge our community to be mindful that there are many telephone scams being operated Provincially, Nationally and perhaps, in this case, locally.

Anyone who has information regarding this Crime  is asked to contact the Lanark County Detachment  OPP using the OPP Non-emergency Toll free Number 1-888-310-1122, or Lanark County Crime Stoppers, toll free at 1-800-222-8477. All Crime Stoppers tips remain anonymous and you will not have to attend court. Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display.
