Lanark County OPP Weekly News for week of Feb 10th – 17th, 2020

LANARK COUNTY – Between Monday, February 10 and Monday, February 17, 2020 officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 354 calls for service.

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Total: 28            Including:

Car / Deer: 1

Parking Lots: 11

Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 8

Lanark County OPP were called to Bolingbroke Road in Tay Valley Township on February 13, 2020 just after 8:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle in the ditch. The subsequent investigation resulted in the charging of a 26 year old Kingston, Ontario resident for the following Provincial offences:

  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner {S. 11(2) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)}
  • Driving while under suspension {S. 53(1) HTA}
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle {S. 12(1)(d) HTA}
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance {S. 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)}

The driver is to appear in Provincial Offences Court in the Town of Perth on March 17, 2020 to answer the charges.

Impaired Drivers – 1

A 34 year old resident of Tay Valley Township, Ontario has been charged with Care and Control, Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle after being involved in a collision and striking two vehicles on February 16, 2020 around 5:00 p.m. After her arrest, the driver registered extremely high breath samples of 366, 337 and 329 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The accused was released from custody on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth on March 9, 2020.

Domestic Incidents – 11

On February 12, 2020, a victim of domestic abuse came forward to Lanark County OPP regarding on-going incidents from 2015 to current. The accused, a 29 year old resident of Drummond-North Elmsley Township, Ontario, who cannot be identified in order to protect the victim was charged with the following offences:

  •  Four counts of Spousal Assault contrary to S. 266 of the Criminal Code
  • Criminal Harassment contrary to S. 264(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to S.430(4) of the Criminal Code
  • Killing or Injuring Animals contrary to S. 445(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

He was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of February 28, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth.

Lanark County OPP were called to a residence after a verbal argument ended in domestic assault at a Drummond-North Elmsley Township residence on February 14, 2020. The accused, a 26 year old resident of Carleton Place, Ontario, who cannot be identified in order to protect the victim, was charged with Assault and Breach of Undertaking. He was later released from custody on an Undertaking to attend a scheduled court date on March 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth. The victim had minor injuries from the assault.

Thefts – 7

Of the seven reported thefts to Lanark County/Carleton Place OPP three incidents were gasoline “drive offs.”

Mischiefs – 3

A 47 year old resident of Mississippi Mills Township was charged with Domestic Mischief on February 12, 2020 after an incident where Carleton Place OPP were called to the home just after 6:30 p.m. The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of March 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth.

Frauds – 4

  Lanark County OPP were called to a business on Highway 7 in the Town of Perth on February 12, 2020 just before 7:30 p.m. regarding a forged prescription. The police investigation resulted in the arrest and charge of Abdullahi UGAS, age 26 of Ottawa, Ontario with Using a Forged Document contrary to S. 368(1)(a) and Identity Theft contrary to S. 402.2(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of March 9. 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice Perth.

Liquor Licence Act Charges – 3

A 26 year old snow machine driver was stopped by OPP during trail patrols in Drummond-North Elmsley Township of February 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. The driver was charged with Having Open Liquor and Failing to Notify Change of Ownership.

A traffic stop in Mississippi Mills Township on February 15, 2020 just before 11:30 p.m. resulted in the 17 year old driver being charged with Driving with Open Liquor.

A traffic stop in Mississippi Mills Township on February 15, 2020 at 11:45 p.m. resulted in two 16 year old passengers being charged with Person Under 19 years Having Liquor.
