Brockville – Jeff Severson, a candidate for councilor in the 2018 Brockville Municipal Election has withdrawn from the election due to a conflict of interest.
In a Facebook post earlier today he said:
“It is with regret that I have to announce my withdrawal for the 2018 Brockville Municipal Election due to a conflict of interest. I believe there are many new faces that share the same ideals and enthusiasm that I have to ensure Brockville remains a place to be proud of. I am however excited and remain committed to the betterment of the City of Brockville and will continue to volunteer for our amazing community. Please take advantage of your right to vote and on Oct 22nd cast that vote for our leaders of tomorrow.” Jeff Severson.
Although he has withdrawn from the race, Severson’s name will still be on the Oct. 22 municipal ballot.
According to the Municipal Elections Act, city hall is prevented from removing his name from the certified list of candidates entered on July 27th, except for when a candidate passes away or becomes ineligible, (moves away or starts employment with the city).
The withdrawal brings the list of council candidates to a total of 20.
