Brockville – Horticulturist Donna White, owner of Green Things Garden, Gift and Maintenance Services, is the recipient of the 2019 Leeds and Grenville Small Business Enterprise Centre Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award was presented at the annual Celebration of Women Entrepreneurs in Our Community event March 7th in recognition of International Women’s Day. The event included a business showcase and dinner at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

“I enjoy what I do and it’s great to be recognized for it,” said Donna. “It is such an honour to be given the award and have the support of the community.”

Donna started gardening and planting trees nearly 40 years ago while working at Green Things. She purchased the business from her former employer several years ago and now runs it with her husband Bert and son Derek. The business employs up to 5 seasonal workers in peak season from March to December.

Green Things Garden, Gift and Maitenance Services is also a gift shop and a place for Christmas trees and decorations during the holidays. In 2014, Donna opened a second gift shop location in Prescott to help revive its downtown. Green Things Garden & Gift Boutique is located at 202 King Street in Prescott.

“We’re quite happy with it,” Donna says of the Prescott location. “We’ve doubled our sales.” Learn more about Green Things, located at 1892 County Road 2 East, by visiting their website.

The Sue McLaurin Leadership Memorial Award, presented by Brockville Women in Business, was earned by Ashley Hill, owner of Podium Sports Therapy & Wellness Centre at 108 Waltham Road in Brockville. Learn more about Podium Sports by visiting their website.
