IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION ON 401

EDWARDSBURGH/CARDINAL – On March 1, 2021, at 9:47 p.m., the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 401, near Highway 416, in the Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal. It was reported that a vehicle travelling eastbound had spun out of control and collided with a road sign.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol and entered into an impaired driving investigation. The driver was arrested after failing a roadside breath test. No injuries were reported to police.

As a result of the investigation a 60 year-old woman, of London, Ontario, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

CC 320.14(1)(a) – Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
CC 320.14(1)(b) – Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on March 19, 2021.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
