Brockville – The Inaugural Brockville Butterfly Run to raise awareness of Pregnancy and Infant Loss in our community was held on Sunday in Downtown Brockville.
A very large crowd, over 200 came out to run or walk a 1km or 5km route around either Blockhouse Island and/or the Brockville Tunnel raising a total of $6,340.
The run was held to raise awareness of Pregnancy and Infant Loss in our community. No family wants to even contemplate this happening to them but the fact is 1 in 3 women will experience a pregnancy or infant loss.
The committee was looking to provide information and an open dialogue about Pregnancy and Infant Loss for everyone. Not only does it affect the family that suffered from the loss but their families, friends and community.
The funds raised will go towards the purchase of a cuddle cot for the Maternity Floor at Brockville General Hospital. The cuddle cot provides a chance for bereaved parents and family to have an opportunity to say a proper good bye to their infant.
Did you know that every year in Ontario, 37,000 would-be moms suffer the unimaginable pain of losing their baby at some point during pregnancy? In addition to feeling overwhelming grief, these families face a health-care system that lacks the expertise and training to get them the support they need to start healing after their traumatic loss.
These heartbroken moms and dads are your employees, co-workers, family, friends and neighbours and they desperately need your help.
However, there is hope. Thanks to Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network, the one in three Ontario women who will lose a baby during pregnancy in her lifetime now have somewhere to turn.
