Gananoque – The United Way Leeds & Grenville teamed up with the Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink Project to offer hockey enthusiasts an opportunity to raise money to help make the late MP Gord Brown’s vision of a healthy community come to life. They came through with flying colours raising $83,728!
The funds were raised through a combination or generous sponsors, local businesses, family, friends, an online and live auction and over 450 attendees to the game in Gananoque which was held on Wednesday, November 28th at the Lou Jefferies Arena.
“We were so proud to have the opportunity to participate in running this game with the Brown family and the Thousand Islands Accommodations Partner team. The late MP Gord Brown did so much for the Leeds & Grenville community and we wanted to make sure that we ran an event that he would be proud to have his name on. We wanted this game to show his two boys, Chance and Tristan, how much their Dad was loved and respected – and not because of who he was but for what he did for others” ~ Trish Buote, Executive Director United Way Leeds & Grenville
The Committee would like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers, and staff for their many hours of support for this initiative. Most of all we would like to thank the Brown Family, especially Jeff, Claudine, Chance and Tristan for sharing Gord with the community and allowing us to honour him in this way.

About The Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink
In 2017, founding partners of Thousand Islands Accommodations Partners (TIAP), Gord and Jeff Brown, decided to undertake a community enhancement project. Gord was quick to suggest that an outdoor refrigerated Ice Pad constructed in the Town of Gananoque would be the perfect project.
Since July of 2017 consultation has taken place between TIAP, The Town of Gananoque and The Township of Leeds and 1000 Islands. A grant to secure the Canada 150 Ice Pad was written and awarded to Gananoque in August 2018. In Oct. 2018, Council agreed to call the rink The Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink.
