First Day in the Books for 4th Annual Island Breakfast – VIDEO

Continues Thursday, Friday & Saturday!

Brockville – The 4th annual Island Breakfast hosted on Brockville’s Refugee Island began Wednesday morning.

Despite water levels on the St. Lawrence being at an all-time high, it hasn’t dampened the spirits or the plans of the Island Breakfast Committee of Brockville. A steady stream of people came out on Wednesday morning for the first day of the event.

The site of the breakfast was moved just west of the original site this year due to the high waters.

It will continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00am to 10:00am. Boats depart from the foot of St. Lawrence Park each morning of the event starting at 7:00am, with the last departure from the park at 10 :00am. Breakfast features local or locally sponsored fare including bacon, eggs, ham, toast, beans, pancakes, coffee, juice and strawberries.

The funds raised from the breakfast will support the construction of a permanent pavilion for the island and to date, more than 50 people and companies have stepped up to be sponsors of the legacy project this year. Contributing sponsors to the project will be acknowledged permanently once the pavilion is constructed.

Leading the way this year as presenting sponsors are Investors Group, Downtown Brockville and Mapleview Homes who each have contributed to offset the costs of hosting the ever-popular event. Following this year, the Committee hopes to have over 50% of its fund raising goal of $75,000 achieved. Mapleview Homes will be building the new pavilion starting next year.

The Island Breakfast has been attended by the local community and tourists alike, giving those who could not otherwise experience island life, the chance to do so. Last year more than 2,000 people attended the event over 4 days. Island Breakfast is made possible through over 200 volunteers and sponsors.

Advance tickets are on sale at the Brockville Tourism Office (Market Street): $12 for adults, $10 for students/seniors, $8 for children under 10 years and $30 for a family of 4. Prices on the days of the event are: $15 adults, $12 seniors/students, $10 children and $35 for a family of 4. Golf carts will be available for transportation to and from the launch area in St. Lawrence Park.
